Yes. But what those people fail to consider is that 42 is the answer to life the universe and everything. Also I was not emotionally ready to celebrate my 40s at the usual time so I'm catching up.
The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy is perhaps the most remarkable, certainly the most successful book ever to come out of the great publishing corporations of Ursa Minor - more popular than The Celestial Home Care Omnibus, better selling than 53 Things to Do in Zero Gravity, and more controversial than Oolon Colluphid's trilogy of philosophical blockbusters: Where God Went Wrong, Some More of God's Greatest Mistakes and Who is this God Person Anyway? And in many of the more relaxed civilizations on the outer eastern rim of the galaxy, the Hitch Hiker's Guide has already supplanted the great Encyclopaedia Galactica as the standard repository of all knowledge and wisdom. Because although it has many omissions, contains much that is apocryphal - or at least wildly inaccurate - it scores over the older, more pedestrian work in two important ways: first, it is slightly cheaper, and second, it has the words "Don't Panic" inscribed in large, friendly letters on the cover.
It's a series of books, a radio series, LP, tv series, movie, comic book, text adventure game and (I recently discovered) immersive theatre experience that has captivated nerds since it was first created by Douglas Adams in the 1970s.
There is indeed a theme: "space and sci-fi". Come as an alien, a robot, a Vulcan, a space girl from the future, a wookiee, a dalek, a bowl of petunias or a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri. You don't have to dress up but if you want to I've got some inspo for you here: https://pin.it/72su5JqYV
There will be some finger food. Potentially some (mock) babel fish sticks.
The Quadrophonic Club is a social club in Brunswick with a quadrophonic sound system, a DJ booth and an interior straight out of the 1970s. As they say on their website: "Lost to digitisation and the rationalisation of electronics manufacture in the 1980's, the dream of 4-dimensional sound returns to the Quadraphonic Club." There sure will! Three incredible vinyl DJs will be there playing the finest space disco and other bangers: DJ Crispi, DJ Steely Ann & DJ The Doctor of Tardisco. To get you in the mood I've assembled some of my far out favs here: Listen to "42" on Spotify
Unfortunately the venue advises its licence does not allow for kids. Please get in touch if you'd like me to check for specific kids.
Please please do not get anything I promise you there is nothing I need. If you are feeling generous Fitzroy Legal Service does incredible work for some of the most vulnerable people in our community and would happily take your money.
